Misconceptions

"The love bond my baby had formed with this, the center of her universe, was so profound that she nursed with both arms clasped around the sloping perimeter of the breast.  (It was no longer "my breast", since it had become her possession, so I thought of it as "the breast".  Really, it was "her breast", though I couldn't quite bring myself to sign it over to her outright.)  The milk would act as an opiate, and her eyes would grow more and more heavy-lidded, until, when she was sated, she would fall helplessly down in a swoon, exhausted, her cheek resting against her one true love, all passion spent.  In this state, I could lift her arm and drop it, sit her up or lie her down, while she would remain unconscious to the world.
I had never in my life been able to make someone so happy so simply."~Naomi Wolf
